We encountered a Leopard Seal slithering under and around our zodiac looking for prey- an amazing show seen through the crystal clear water. [L] It was quite a site watching it heaving itself onto the iceberg and try to reach where there were Crabeater Seals sunning themselves. [Above]
We took an early morning zodiac cruise around the bay and experienced the breathtaking scenery with every sense - and it was a total sensory overload.
Two Crabeater Seals [above] were unphased by the potential preditortory position of the Leopard Seal.
We climbed up 500 feet through knee deep snow to reach the vista. Awesome!
Paradise Bay is aptly named and gave us a perfect “blue and white day” in the glorious sunshine. The scenery is beyond adequate description. As our expedition leader said, it changes you to visit this special place.
We couldn't get enough of this beautiful place. We ate our breakfast outside despite the cold. This Skua came and checked us out while we ate. [Right]
The Hanseatic in a glorious setting [left]. Rick hiking in the snow [below] all the way up to the top [above]. He's the best “King of the World!”
Almirante Brown is an abandoned Argentine station which was torched by an incensed doctor when told that he must stay another year instead of going home-Bye bye!
Here is the whole gang traveling with the Smithsonian--a great group!
After our return from exploring Paradise Bay we were treated to “apres ski” hot dogs and beer outside on the deck of our ship. It was a completely decadent experience in every detail including a cute “penguin” on captured ice next to the pool. Yummy too!!
Once you get to the top you have to get down. Walk? Naugh....just slide down! So we did! It was great fun to do a “butt luge” in the paths made down the side. Rick made a video of his trip complete with sound effects! The view from the top [R] shows that it looked like you could go off into the water. It was crazy!
